7. Finally, it is now possible to recommend provisional standards for both sensitization to mites and
also mite allergen exposure. It is proposed that a level
of 2 μg Der p I/g of dust (equivalent to 100 mites/g
or 0.6 mg guanine/g of dust) should be regarded as a
risk factor for sensitization and the development of
asthma. The higher level of 10 μg Der p I/g of dust
(or 500 mites/g of dust) is proposed as a major risk
factor for the development of acute asthma in mite
allergic individuals.
